The Oval Herringbone Dining Table is one of those pieces that earns its place in a room through craftsmanship rather than novelty. The tabletop is hand-laid in a solid mango wood herringbone pattern — each plank set at an angle, the grain shifting direction with every row, creating a surface with genuine depth and visual interest that a plain-top table simply can't match.
The natural, lightly distressed surface is unique to each table — slight variation in tone, texture and grain pattern means no two are identical. Hand-painted black edges frame the top cleanly, and the whole thing sits on a black powder-coated iron spider base — a modern, architectural form that keeps the visual weight low and the focus on the wood above.
At 180 cm long, it seats six to eight comfortably, and the oval shape means no awkward corners — everyone gets a good seat and the table flows well in the room whether it's dressed for dinner or cleared for the morning.

A herringbone top that repays a closer look The herringbone pattern is hand-laid from solid mango wood planks — each piece set at an angle so the grain shifts direction with every row. The effect is subtle when you're across the room and detailed when you're sitting at it. It's the kind of surface that makes a plain wooden tabletop look like an afterthought by comparison. |
|
Solid mango wood — built to last and age well The herringbone surface is solid mango wood — a dense, durable hardwood — laid over a reinforced engineered wood substrate for long-term stability. This construction gives you the warmth and character of real wood grain on top, with a base layer that resists the movement and warping that solid-through tables can develop over time. |
|
No two tables are the same The natural, lightly distressed surface means each table has its own tonal variation and grain character. The wood is FSC-approved and sourced with sustainability in mind — the slight differences between pieces are a mark of genuine natural material, not inconsistency in production. Your table will be its own thing. |
|
The spider base — modern, low-profile, practical The black powder-coated iron spider base is polished and lacquered for durability. Its radiating arm design keeps the visual footprint minimal — there are no legs in the way of chairs or feet, and the low-profile structure lets the herringbone top take centre stage. It's a base that does its job without drawing attention to itself. |
|
Oval — a better shape for a dining table Oval tables seat more people than rectangular ones of the same length, with no awkward corner seats where guests feel pushed out. The curved edges also make it easier to move around the table in tighter dining rooms. At 180 cm the Oval Herringbone seats six comfortably and eight at a squeeze — without dominating the room the way a large rectangular table can. |
|
Hand-painted black edges — a clean finishing detail The tabletop edges are hand-painted black, creating a clean visual boundary between the warm wood surface above and the black iron base below. It's a small detail that ties the whole piece together and gives it a deliberately finished look rather than a raw one. |
The Oval Herringbone Table earns its place at the centre of a room — set for a Sunday roast with the whole family, cleared back after dinner for drinks, or simply dressed with a candle and a vase on a quiet evening. It works across a wide range of chair styles: paired with upholstered dining chairs it feels relaxed and warm; with leather or metal chairs it tips slightly more contemporary. The herringbone top photographs well too, which matters more than it perhaps should for people who like to dress a table for occasions.

How many people does this table seat?
The 180 cm oval comfortably seats six people and can accommodate eight when needed. The oval shape makes the most of the length — there are no corner seats that feel squeezed, and everyone has equal space around the table. For regular family dining or hosting, six is the sweet spot.
Will my table look exactly like the photos?
Close, but not identical — and that's intentional. The herringbone surface is handcrafted from natural mango wood, so grain pattern, tone and texture vary between pieces. The photos show the character of the surface rather than a precise template. Natural variation is a feature of real solid wood furniture, not a quality concern.
Is this a fully solid wood table?
The herringbone surface is solid mango wood planks, laid over a reinforced engineered wood substrate. This construction gives you genuine solid wood character and grain on the visible surface, while the substrate layer provides long-term stability and reduces the risk of warping or movement that can affect solid-through wood tables over time — particularly in centrally heated UK homes.
Does it require assembly?
Some assembly is required — typically attaching the spider base to the tabletop. This is straightforward and all fixings and instructions are included. We recommend having two people for the final positioning given the size of the table.
Are chairs included?
Chairs are not included and are sold separately. The table pairs well with a wide range of dining chair styles — upholstered, wooden, leather or metal. Please browse our full dining collection for compatible options.
Can I have this table delivered to my postcode?
Due to the size and shape of this table, we are unable to deliver to offshore locations or the following postcodes: BT, AB, DD, KW, PH, IV, KA, TR. For all other mainland UK postcodes, delivery is fast and free. If you're unsure, please contact our team before ordering and we'll be happy to confirm.
